Stock Art as Wall Art
June 20th, 2008
I have found that one of the better ways to find art for my walls is by using a stock art service. These services are used mostly by the design industry for finding images for websites or print media. What is great about the services, are that they provide thousands of images in a variety of genres—people, objects, landscapes, and textures.
Rather than purchasing the picture in printed form, you purchase the rights to use the picture. It usually costs around $5 per picture. Several of these services exist including Getty, Corbis, and iStockphoto.
To use these images as wall art for your home, simply purchase the image, print it using an online printing service, such as Shutterfly, frame it, and hang it up. The image above, by Dan Wilton, was purchased using iStockPhoto and is currently hanging in my bedroom.
FYI: Most of the terms of service for the images provide for personal use; but, you should read the disclosure before you print the picture.
